Keeping Perspective

November 3rd, 2020

Brides, let’s be really frank for a minute. There is something that needs to be said ~  it may ruffle some feathers but it has to be said ~ at the end of the day It. Is. Just. A. Dress.

I know, I know blasphemous coming from a bridal shop owner, right? Don’t get me wrong, I adore weddings. I cherish the ceremony and tradition of the art of a wedding. I marvel at  the infusion of modern touches and personal style. I long for getting dressed up and spending a day in blissful celebration, while pushing out the chaos and noise of the world. And above all, I LOVE wedding dresses. The art, the craftsmanship, the fabrics, the creative vision; I can reveal in it endlessly.

But yes, I still stand behind my proclamation. However, I know it comes with further clarification needed. What I am really trying to say is, don’t lose sight of that fact that it is about so much more. Don’t get caught up in obsessing over every detail, of a detail. Keep Perspective.

Stay focused on what really matters, what this is really about: marriage. Marriage, that life-long, amazing, intense, passionate, consuming, uncharted, inspiring ride you are undertaking with your favorite human on this planet. Everything else is just accoutrements.

I know we will never hear the word “marriage” as much as we do “wedding”, but challenge yourself to think about it equally. Devote as much time dreaming of your perfect marriage as your perfect wedding. Spend as much time reading, gaining knowledge, seeking advice about the elements of a successful partnership as you do planning the most memorable event.

Mostly importantly: keep perspective. The wedding is just the party to celebrate the marriage and the dress is just one element of the wedding. So yea, sometimes we need to remember ~ it is just a dress.

Happy Planning!
